Ingrid Bredenberg has been named a 2006 Ruby Award winner by Inscape Publishing Inc. The United Way of Pioneer Valley in Springfield announced the following during its annual meeting on May 3:
• The Sadowsky Family of Longmeadow recently received the United Way of Pioneer Valley’s Spirit of Caring Award. The award recognizes a volunteer whose uncommon leadership, vision and passion strengthens the capacity of people in the community to live more productive lives. The Sadowsky family (James and Barbara Sadowsky, Ronald and Brenna Sadowsky, Adrian and Ginny Levsky, and Scott and Jodie Sadowsky), received the award for their ongoing efforts to tackle a variety of issues faced by residents of the Pioneer Valley;
• Ann Teschner, Executive Director for The Care Center in Holyoke, received the Kevin Hamel Community Building Award. The award recognizes a nonprofit organization that serves the community with the highest possible integrity and values. The award was created in honor of Kevin Hamel, the former executive director of the Valley Opportunity Council, who passed away in 2005, and
• Trish Hannon, Senior Vice President and COO, Baystate Health in Springfield, accepted the United Way’s Champions of Hope Award. Baystate Health has partnered with United Way for more than 30 years and has consistently increased its goal contributions. In addition, it currently houses 100 donors who contribute at a leadership level to United Way.
• The United Way also honored several Board of Directors members who recently retired from their service to the board. They were: Brig. Gen. Wade Farris, Rev. Karen Rucks, Hector Toledo, Cynthia Tucker Curtis and Carolyn Ware.

Holyoke Community College (HCC) announced the following:
• Pamela Kennedy and Eileen F. Kelley were named co-recipients of the 2007 Elaine Marieb Chair for Teaching Excellence. Named after retired HCC anatomy and physiology professor Elaine Marieb, the award is presented annually to a faculty member for excellence in classroom teaching. Kennedy, a 21-year college employee, chairs and teaches in the English as a Second Language program. Kelley has taught in that program since joining the college 20 years ago.
• John Scanlon has been recognized as the Outstanding Non-unit Professional Staff Member of the Year. A 33-year employee of HCC, Scanlon directs the college’s graphics department.
• Linda Sullivan has been recognized as the 2007 Classified Staff Member of the Year. Sullivan, who serves as the clerk for the Division of Science, Engineering and Mathematics, is a seven-year employee of the college.
